The ultrafiltration membrane uses instead of the micro filtration such small pores that no viruses have the chance to pass them. Even smaller pores uses the nano filtration, but these would plug up to fast when only roughly precleanded water is used and the pressure of a manual pump would not be strong enough anymore.
